Chelsea are still keen on signing Antonio Rudiger despite the defender’s devastating knee injury.
The German international was expecting to play at Euro 2016 but suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury just before the tournament began.
Goal.com believe that while Rudiger’s representatives were concerned that his injury could jeopardise his move to the Premier League, Chelsea have assured them they are still interested.
The Roma player, who only made his stay in the Italian capital permanent very recently after a loan from Stuttgart, could still come to Stamford Bridge, but he shouldn’t even think about playing a game for Antonio Conte for at least six months.
Yet, Chelsea can’t afford to wait until January, as then they could lose out on him altogether.
Conte is in desperate need of a new defender given that John Terry isn’t expected to play all that much next season, but signing Rudiger would put him in a tricky position.
He wouldn’t be able to use him until nearly 2017, but his arrival could put other defenders off joining, as he would surely nail down a spot when he’s fit.
