Chelsea could be lining up a shock move for Manchester United’s misfit defender Matteo Darmian, according to The Sun.

It shouldn’t come as that much of a surprise given that Darmian is part of Italy’s Euro 2016 squad which is , of course, managed by Antonio Conte, who is taking over at Chelsea when the tournament finishes.

However, if the Blues bid for Darmian, it will raise eyebrows nonetheless in light of his performances for United this season.

The 26-year-old put in some horror show performances at right-back, and Louis van Gaal often preferred Red Devils youngster Timothy Fosu-Mensah in that position.

So it’s no wonder Darmian is expected to leave, but he’ll do well if he can seal a move to Chelsea.

Several sources are also suggesting Juventus could be interested, which means he could be part of a title-winning side next season – an unlikely reward for looking completely out of his depth at United.

Over at Old Trafford, Jose Mourinho has been tasked with turning United from top four contenders back into title winners, a challenge which will almost certainly involve shipping out some of the dead wood that was allowed to thrive under van Gaal.

Unfortunately for players like Darmian, it seems that that will signal the end of their time in north-west.
