Kalidou Koulibaly could be on his way to Chelsea as one of Antonio Conte’s first signings.
The Senegal defender looks set to leave Napoli because the Serie A runners-up have stumbled over giving him a new deal, according to Goal.com.
“No, I have not talked to him but that may be soon”, he said, referring to Blues boss Conte.
Koulibaly could fill the void let by John Terry, as the captain isn’t expected to play any more than 10 games next season in the league.
At 24 years of age, he would be an ideal long-term option as current Chelsea centre-back Gary Cahill has also just entered his thirties.
Chelsea’s defence was painfully slow last season and that was a major factor in their demise.
They have been linked with Everton’s John Stones as a means of addressing the issue, but Koulibaly would be a much cheaper and less risky option.
Transfermarkt believe Arsenal are also interested, but Koulibaly’s comments suggest he has his heart set on a move to Stamford Bridge, though if Napoli offer him a deal, he may well stay in southern Italy.
