Gerard Pique launches astonishing attack on Manchester United players

Manchester United remember Gerard Pique’s time at the club fondly, but it looks like the feeling isn’t reciprocated.

The Barcelona and Spain defender has hit out at senior players during his time at United.

In an interview with radio station Onda Cero, brought to our attention by football365, he said:

“When I was seventeen, eighteen years old and tried to make the jump to the first team at Manchester (United), it was much more difficult, senior players were a**holes.”

Strong words indeed.

The comment didn’t come out of nowhere, as Pique was discussing the development of young players.

Spain boss Vincente del Bosque has included several inexperienced starlets in his Euro 2016 squad, including Arsenal’s 21-year-old Hector Bellerin.

That presumably prompted Pique to reminisce about his time in England, but he clearly doesn’t have many happy memories.

It’s unclear exactly who he was referring to, but United will want to take stock of his comments.

The club provide themselves on their development of young players, the most recent being Marcus Rashford.

Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Paul Scholes, and the Neville brothers all came up through the ranks in recent years, but United may want to consider whether that culture has changed – that is, if they take any notice of Pique’s claims at all.
