Jose Mourinho may be spending Monday morning in court, but it seems someone at Manchester United is working on his behalf.
United’s incoming manager is busy facing former Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro, with whom he is embroiled in a long legal battle over constructive dismissal, but there is better news elsewhere for the new Red Devils boss.
Villarreal have revealed that Ivory Coast defender Eric Bailly is close to agreeing on a move to Old Trafford, according to the Manchester Evening News.
He will be Mourinho’s first signing since taking charge and will cost around £28million.
The 22-year-old also impressed last season as Villarreal got back into the Champions League.
Mourinho shouldn’t have any concerns about him adapting to the Premier League because he has a big physical build.
He has been ill-disciplined from time to time, but that may stem from his lack of experience, and besides, Mourinho has worked with the likes of Pepe at Real Madrid, so disciplining Bailly shouldn’t be too much trouble.
The Ivorian’s arrival will be eagerly awaited by United fans, but perhaps not by Daley Blind, as this could spell the end for the centre-back – if it wasn’t already coming.
