Few would be surprised if Liverpool signed a new left-back this summer.
Following Alberto Moreno’s horror show that cost the Reds dear in the Europa League final, boss Jurgen Klopp is understandably on the lookout for a replacement.
What has come as a shock, however, is that it could be Arsenal’s Kieran Gibbs.
That’s according to The Mirror, who also suggest Liverpool are monitoring Leicester youngster Ben Chilwell.
Gibbs would be an excellent signing as he has been somewhat underrated at the Emirates.
His career started promisingly, but injuries have hampered his progression and this season just gone, he found it difficult to oust Nacho Monreal from the first XI.
What Gibbs needs is a second chance at regular first team football and Liverpool is about the biggest club where he can reasonably expect that.
Klopp is excellent at getting the best out of players and that could be a factor in Gibbs getting back to his best.
He has 10 caps for England, but he is out of the international picture for now as Spurs’ Danny Rose has nailed down that position.
If Gibbs wants to get back in the frame for the 2018 World Cup, he needs to move on quickly.
