ARSENAL expect to complete the signing of Jamie Vardy in the next 24 hours, according to the Daily Mail, after activating his £20million release clause.
The paper reports: “Discussions have accelerated at rapid pace with only the formalities of the deal now left to conclude.
“Arsenal are confident the deal will be rubber-stamped before Vardy leaves for Euro 2016 on Monday.”
Vardy only agreed a new deal with Leicester in February after his 24 league goals helped the Foxes claim the most unlikely of Premier League titles.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger watched the 29-year-old striker in action for England during Thursday’s final Euro 2016 warm-up victory over Portugal and the north London giants will offer him a significant increase on his current £80,000-a-week contract.
Vardy’s remarkable rise from non-league obscurity with Fleetwood to the national team in the space of five years has attracted attention from several clubs, with West Ham having a bid knocked back early last month.
Even though the Foxes, like Arsenal, will play Champions League football next season, the lure of a move to the Emirates may be hard for the reigning Barclays Player of the Season to refuse.
