Manchester United have always thought of Paul Pogba as the one that got away.
Some describe it as Sir Alex Ferguson’s greatest mistake when he allowed the French sensation to leave Old Trafford as a youngster.
Back then, United simply couldn’t thrash out a contract with the demanding midfield talisman, who clearly knew his worth even better than they did.
All those wrongs could be righted pretty soon, however, as it seems there is a high chance Pogba is on his way back to the club.
The Independent report that Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho has given the go-ahead for a £60 million bid on the Juventus star.
Oddly, Juventus are happy to sell him because they’d rather have the money so they can build their squad up in other areas.
That just leaves Pogba himself to agree to the move.
He may have fallen out with Fergie in 2012, but the lure of Mourinho might well convince him to return four years later.
It would be a record fee for United and though he only played three times for them in the Premier League, this time around he would surely be the heart of their midfield.
It’s unlikely any deal will be done until after the Euros, as Pogba is part of the host nation, who start their campaign in exactly one week.
He is being tipped to star at the tournament, with some even suggesting he will be the catalyst for France going all the way and winning it.
Juventus will be rubbing their hands if he does, so United might want to make a bid sooner rather than later before his price tag goes even higher.
