CHELSEA are considering a shock move for Liverpool flop Christian Benteke.

While wantaway Everton forward Romelu Lukaku remains the Blues’ favoured option, 25-year-old Benteke has emerged as an alternative for new Stamford Bridge boss Antonio Conte.

The Daily Mail reports that Benteke might be a cheaper option as Everton want £65million to let Lukaku leave, even though the latter is still Antonio Conte’s top target.

It would be an expensive ‘U-turn’ by Chelsea who sold Lukaku to Everton in 2014 for £28m – without inserting a buy-back clause in the contract.

After making just 10 appearances for the Blues in the Premier League over three years, the Belgian international has enjoyed great success since switching to the Toffees, which has led to Manchester United, Juventus and Paris St Germain also expressing interest.

As for his compatriot Benteke, his career has hit the rocks since Liverpool paid £32.5m to Aston Villa to secure his services.

The powerful frontman has struggled at Anfield, starting only 14 league games for the Reds last season and clearly not fitting into boss Jurgen Klopp’s system.

Whether Chelsea fans would be happy to bring in a Liverpool ‘reject’ remains to be seen, but if Benteke can rediscover the form he showed at Villa, he’s certainly a more than useful option to have.
