Former Chelsea Manager, Jose Mourinho is in the waiting to succeed Louis Van Gaal at Old Trafford after another disappointing season with the Red Devils.
Van Gaal has spent the last six months battling to keep his job at Old Trafford with his side struggling to find a good run of form.
United could still finish fourth if they beat Bournemouth on Sunday and City slip up against Swansea at the Liberty Stadium.
However, Executive Vice Chairman Ed Woodward is reluctant as to sack the Dutch manager, but knows the team have made little progress under his leadership.
Mourinho has been in Mexico this week at the same time as United director David Gill, although it is unclear if the pair have held talks.
Mourinho mounted more pressure on Van Gaal insisting he will be back to management as early as July, “Of course I miss it. But in July I will be back. So we are in May and May to July is nothing.” he said.
“I keep enjoying my life which I’m doing, keep enjoying my family. But in July I am back – that’s fine.”
