Frank Lampard backs Antonio Conte to succeed at Chelsea

Former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has issued his backing for incoming Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.

The three time Serie A title winner is reportedly set to take over the reins at Stamford Bridge, as interim manager Guus Hiddink is not expected to continue as manager of the club beyond next season.

With Conte having confirmed he will not still be the tactical brain in the Italy senior national team setup after the Euro 2016, Chelsea are thought to be frontrunners to secure his signature in the summer.

A decision Lampard believes will benefit his former club considering his reputation.

“I don’t know him too well but he’s got a great pedigree, a great recent record with Juventus. I spoke with Andrea Pirlo about him and he has nothing but good words to say about him,” he told BT Sport.

“I think he’s hard-working, he’ll have the players working hard. He has what fans and players like to see, that determination, that will to win.

“It’s a difficult job at Chelsea now considering what’s happened this year, so we’ll see. If it is him, I think he has the pedigree to do it, but the decision has not been made so we’ll see.”
