Dad’s advice to star: join Man United or Bayern

Lukaku - wanted man

ROMELU LUKAKU’S father has told his son to join either Manchester United or Bayern Munich this summer in order to further his career.

The Everton forward joined the Toffees in 2013 and made his move to Goodison Park permanent the following summer in a £28.5million move from Chelsea.

The 22-year-old has scored 25 goals in 39 appearances for a struggling Everton side this season and he would command a transfer fee in excess of £45m if he was to leave Merseyside this summer.

Lukaku senior told Belgian newspaper HLN:

“I know his agent prefers Italy but I think he must choose Manchester United or Bayern Munich.”

The striker himself added: “I’m 23 – it’s time to measure me at the very top. For me, my form at Everton is currently very good.

“I’m 23 years old this summer and I’ve never played Champions League. I’m really looking for me to measure myself against the absolute top players.”

It appears inevitable that Lukaku will leave Everton in the off-season but any move is not likely to happen until towards the end of the summer transfer window as the Toffees hold out for as big a fee as possible.

The Belgium international is tailor-made for the Premier League, as he’s shown, but his pace and power would also see him slot comfortably into the Bundesliga.

If Champions League football is what is driving him then Bayern obviously look a much surer bet.

However, any move for Lukaku will depend on whether the German outfit keep hold of star forward Robert Lewandowski.

United would probably guarantee Lukaku more football but at this stage we don’t even know who their manager will be next season, let alone whether they’ll be competing in the Champions League.

What would be the best move for Lukaku, United or Bayern Munich?

Sounds like Dad has a foot in the past. Man United won’t be playing Champions League football next year. or in the foreseeable future. Possibly, they won’t even make the Europa league. So long as Woodward is in charge of MU, Lukaku might as well stay at Everton.
