DIEGO COSTA has emerged as a surprise target for Paris St Germain.

The French giants will be looking to boost their attack over the summer with out-of-contract Zlatan Ibrahimovic likely to depart and Edison Cavani also pushing for a move in order to get more regular first team football.

The Daily Star reports:

“Paris St Germain, who aim to dump Chelsea out of the Champions League for the second year running on Wednesday, have turned their attention to star striker Costa.

“Atletico Madrid are also interested in re-signing the Spain international, who Chelsea bought for £32million in 2014.

“But super-rich PSG are easily able to outbid them and could use Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani as part of the deal.”

Costa would be an interesting acquisition by the runaway Ligue 1 leaders. He certainly doesn’t have the touch or finesse of Ibrahimovic or Cavani but he does provide a strong physical presence and gives opposition defenders something different to think about.

After a poor start to this season, the burly forward has rediscovered his goalscoring touch since Guus Hiddink replaced Jose Mourinho, scoring 10 times in 14 appearances.

But Costa’s value to a team isn’t measured solely on goals. His in-your-face confrontational attitude and combative nature unsettles defences and he provides a strong focal point up front, something the Blues may struggle to replace if he were to leave.

While he’s far from everyone’s cup of tea, the Spaniard has proved an excellent fit in the hustle and bustle of the Premier League and he’s more than repaid his fee to Chelsea.

However, his antics have won him few friends away from Stamford Bridge and it could well be time to move on, we’re just not so sure he would fit smoothly into PSG’s playing style – or be the man their fans would like to see leading the attack.

Chelsea fans, would it be a big loss if Costa left at the end of this season?
