Leavers form an orderly queue at Real Madrid

Better than Best?

A NUMBER of Europe’s biggest clubs are on high alert after a Spanish TV show claimed Real Madrid stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos have both put in transfer requests.

The pair are believed to have spoken to club president Florentino Perez after Real’s 1-0 derby defeat to Atletico, asking that he let them leave in the summer – with Manchester United reported to be a possible destination for both.

The TV programme ‘El Chiringuito’ reported: “The president tried to calm Ronaldo down and asked him him to focus on finishing the season in the best form possible.

“More serious is Ramos, the club captain and a symbol of Madridismo who recently signed a new deal, also speaking to the president in similar terms. He requested Perez listen to offers from other clubs.

“While the rumours of a Ronaldo departure are constant, that a symbol like Ramos would ask to leave is a sign of how far things have fallen for Real Madrid recently.”

Ronaldo has regularly been linked with a return to United over the past few seasons – the club where he made his name. It’s no secret the Portuguese forward still has a soft spot for the Red Devils and has spoken on a number of occasions about his desire to one day return to the 20-times English champions.

While Real Madrid have always been quick to dismiss any suggestion of selling their star man, there’s a growing feeling that Ronaldo is no longer happy at the La Liga club and this summer may just be the one that sees him depart.

As for Ramos, he’d be a terrific addition to any club but would United fans welcome him with open arms after it was widely believed the Spain international used the Red Devils’ interest in him last season as leverage to earn himself a bumper new deal with the Spanish giants.

Are United fans confident this could be the summer that sees Ronaldo return to Old Trafford?

Man U fans cannot be confident of any star player arriving at Old trafford so long as Ed Woodward holds sway. He does not have the skill nor the gonads to negotiate and deal for quality players.
He could have acquired CR7 in January when his presence Wouold have chqanged the entire outlook.
Instead he was constantly reported to be “preparing offers” that never materialized. Woodward’s reticence is going to cost the club millions of pounds until he is removed from being in charge of player acquisition.
