Melbourne City v Melbourne Victory – Predictions, Tips and Form Stats

Kevin Muscat

H2H Betting (Bet365):
Melbourne City $2.75,
Draw $3.60,
Melbourne Victory $2.40

Melbourne City have won 3/3 previous derbies at this venue, including the most recent one, which they won 2-1. Despite this, the team news ahead of the season’s third and final derby is worrying as far as City is concerned. Having released Erik Paartalu, the Citizens will also be without Jacob Melling, who was red carded against Newcastle, leaving a massive whole in the middle of the park.

Recent Head-to-Head history:

Melbourne City 2 Melbourne Victory 1
Melbourne Victory 3 Melbourne City 2
Melbourne Victory 3 Melbourne City 0
Melbourne City 1 Melbourne Victory 0
Melbourne Victory 5 Melbourne City 2

On the other hand, Victory are set to name virtually a full strength side. Fahid Ben Khalfallah and Rashid Mahazi return from suspension, while Matthieu Delpierre and Gui Finkler are likely to recover from their respective injuries. Given City’s poor defensive record, I like Victory’s chances of scoring at least two goals. They did it with ease in the first derby of the season, whilst in the second, it was only the heroics of keeper Thomas Sorenson which stopped them from doing so again. City have conceded 11 goals in their past five games and have only kept one clean sheet all season.

Victory to win.

Recommendation:
Melbourne Victory total team goals +1.5 @ $1.75
