Edinson Cavani
Cavani is a top striker who has scored at a fantastic rate throughout his career. He’s succeeded in Uruguay, Italy and France so we now he travels well.
But he’s seemingly become unsettled at PSG despite bagging 13 in 24 games this season.
His coach Laurent Blanc is quoted in The Daily Mail as saying of Cavani earlier this month:
‘There is a problem with Cavani’s behaviour but my job is to think of the entire squad as a collective,’
‘I believe that he can score here but I understand if he wants to consider other career opportunities.’
VERDICT: Available and quick enough to complement Wayne Rooney in a two man attack with the Uruguayan furthest forward.
Saido Berahino
Far be it for us to tell the Manchester United scouts their job. But unless there is a weakness that we aren’t seeing then we can’t understand why bigger clubs haven’t got involved. Berahino has got 10 years left at the top. He’s fast, adaptable and a great athlete with real finesse in his finishing.
VERDICT: Could still turn out to be the buy of the window for some club.
Alex Teixeira
His agent has stated publicly that the player is available at the right price:
“Teixeira has compensation in his contract and the price is 70million Euros [£53m],”
“Please, if someone is going to trigger that let him come and declare himself.”
And, although his club now seems to have closed the door on a winter move his coach has stated this week:
‘I don’t want to keep a player against his desire. He wants to play in a big championship.’
Teixeira has scored a scarcely believable 26 goals in 25 games this season and he can play anywhere behind the striker, on the wing, or through the middle. As his goal record demonstrates, he can also play at number 9 with ease.
He’s a wonderful player and an explosive finisher who would be adored by the fans at Manchester United.
VERDICT: The size of his release clause means that it would represent something of a gamble to sign the attacker. But when you see the quality of his finishing and overall play, it’s hard to think of a better January addition in terms of igniting Manchester United’s attack.
