Bog Move

The career of Alexandre Pato has been the classic rollercoaster affair but he’s hit another high this week by signing on loan for Chelsea until the end of the season. The club website announced the news:

Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce the loan signing of Alexandre Pato from Corinthians until the end of the season.

The player himself seems genuinely delighted to be leaving the beaches of Brazil for the English winter and is quoted as saying:

‘I am so happy to sign for Chelsea. It is a dream for me. I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know my new team-mates and cannot wait to play.

‘I thank Chelsea for their support and hope I can repay this faith to the club and its fans.’

Floundering in the bottom half of The Premier League – Chelsea lie in 13th position on 28 points after 23 games – The Blues needed more firepower and they will hope for that from their new 26-year-old Brazilian capture.

But he offers more than just goals and his wonderful technique often provides a seamless link between midfield and attack.

Pato is a player who likes to speed up the game up with deft touches and creativity.

We will be interested to see how well he fits in to this league and he is certainly going to find it among the more physical challenges in his football career.

It could go either way for him but, by the sound of things, he’s really going to give it a go. The term ‘dream’ is arguably overused by footballers these days to describe a move. But Pato looks absolutely delighted to have joined this Premier League giant.

It’s imposible to predict the future of such a mercurial talent. But with his spate of injuries seemingly behind him, he has every chance to succeed at Stamford Bridge.

Let’s see some of the better moments of his recent career.

Chelsea fans: will Pato play with or instead of Costa?
