Maybe he is paralysed by fear or loathe to admit that a second managerial appointment since 2013 hasn’t worked out.

But, by not acting on this nightmare scenario, Ed Woodward is hanging Louis van Gaal, the players, the fans and himself out to dry at this point. Does he actually enjoy the pain of it all?

Manchester United are in desperate need of a visionary. A convincing new leader. They don’t come along very often but, by a stroke of huge fortune, there is one about actually.

Yeah. And it turns out he’s available. Turns out he wants to join Manchester United by some accounts.

Oh, one other thing – he’s hungrier to succeed and to prove the doubters wrong than ever and he’s a football genius….

What part of this doesn’t appeal to Ed Woodward? What part of the scenario DOESN’T suit Manchester United’s current needs?

TEAM SPIRIT

First and foremost Mourinho will bring this group back to together and reinstall that old mentality of us vs the world that worked so well for Fergie.

Jose will bring back the team spirit which seems to have dissolved under Louis van Gaal at Manchester United.

SIGNINGS

Mourinho knows that signings need to be made. But he also knows that this squad is underachieving on a grand scale under the clunky and static tactics of Van Gaal.

CONFIDENCE IS SHOT

Jose will massage confidence. He’s a brilliant man-manager. He will put an arm around the likes of Memphis Depay, instead of leaving this wonderful talent out in the cold as Louis is doing and also did with Angel di Maria.

DRIVE WITH DIRECTION

Jose knows how to win in The Premier League. He knows exactly how to set up his team and he knows it works.

With the resources available and Mourinho at the helm Manchester United would be in rude health within a year – and for the long-term.

ENTERTAINMENT

And, most importantly, he will get them playing winning and attractive football again.

Yes I said attractive. Anyone who saw Mourinho’s Chelsea team which had Duff and Robben tearing down the wings must laugh at the notion that Mourinho somehow likes negative football. He knows how to defend but he wants to win 5-0 as much as – no more than the next man. And how on earth can it be worse than what is getting served up week after week by LvG right now?

Mourinho is the right manager at the right time. He can rebuild the empire and Manchester United would be absolutely off their chops to overlook him again.
