4-2-3-1: Would this be Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United XI? Reprieve for Mata?

So if Manchester United were lucky enough to get Jose Mourinho sooner rather than later, what team would he pick?

Let’s deal in fact. What we do know is that Jose Mourinho loves a 4-2-3-1.

He has rarely strayed from it regardless of which country he has been working in.

So expect two in the engine room in front of the back 5 if he takes the reins at Manchester United. Most games would see one defensive midfielder, like Carrick or Schneiderlin, alongside a ball player like Ander Herrera.

In the really big games he would play two defensive midfielders as he often did with two of Ramires, Matic and Obi-Mikel in his last stint at Chelsea.

Mourinho demands pace on the wings but also demands that his wingers track back.

As such, he will have a few spats with Memphis as he did with Eden Hazard. Neither want to defend but Hazard eventually learnt to do it and won The PFA Player of the Year award as a consequence.

We think that Mourinho can realise all that immense potential in Memphis as he did with Hazard – in fact it could turn out to be one of his most successful projects at the club.

Signings will of course be made but, with just a week left of the January window, Mourinho would probably have to largely go with what he has got if he did come in now.

That means Martial left, Memphis right and Wayne Rooney – a player he tried to sign a couple of years ago – at number 9. The really interesting question is who he plays at number 10. A bizarre reprieve for Juan Mata perhaps?

So here is our bash at Jose’s first XI if he joins the club this month.

Mourinho and Manchester United? It just sounds right.

To the board: Get a manager to suit the United stands for attacking play and develop their own players

Oh no no no Mourinho is not the right coach for Man. United…

He is defense-minded and he is not good enough to use young players!
It is important for the club that you get a manager who plays offensively and is interested in developing young players themselves.
He also has difficulty being in clubs for more than 3 years (subsequent firing)

My list for a new coach:
(Ancelotti) Sorry he goes to Bayern – He would be a perfect coach for united
    Guardiola
    Giggs
    Conte
    Allegri
    Simeone
    Pochettino

there’s no success with no patience.Van gaal needs time that’s ol. chelsea r used to change coaches but no good and Arsenal’s good performance is that they waited on wenger for 10yrs. time is the reason to success I believe in him.this is English football the hardest league to mantain and that comes to mantain with time.thx

Just appoint Jose, LVG has nothing good to offer other than to drag United deeper into the mud. I have had enough of boredom and worse results since I started following United

Comment: mourinho brags much. if Manchester United want to sack Louis van gal, let Gigs takeover. Because he knows the philosophy of Alex Ferguson. Gigs can do well on the job.

Comment: Lvg has been given a lot of time to make a difference but either we draw or lose after a win, what method is he using, the players are weak without soul, walk and stand on the patch, I feel shame to watch a game even. Please let Lvg be sacked or more disgrace and records to be broken at old Trafford..
