Perhaps discouraged by the volume of interest in Saido Berahino from other clubs, Newcastle have reportedly made a bid for another Premier League striker.
The Sun writes:
Toon offer £7m for Swansea hitman Bafetimbi Gomis
The 30-year-old Swansea City striker moved to his current club in the summer of 2014 from Lyon. He played 36 times and scored 10 goals in his decent debut campaign in The Premier League and has 6 goals in 21 appearances for the struggling Swans this time out.
His overall quality has also earned him appearances for France on 12 occasions with 4 goals scored since his debut in 2008.
But he hasn’t played for Les Bleus since the summer of 2013 against Brazil.
He’s a powerful target man who stands at 6ft 2in and change. He’s got good feet and we think that he would improve the Newcastle squad.
Gomis is, of course, a very different type of player to Berahino. So perhaps it’s not a case of either/or and Newcastle are looking to sign both in this window.
Let’s see the superbly named man in action shall we? Yes, let’s.

Such useless lazy reporting.. Stop spreading garbage around the Internet. When did Newcastle last sign a 30 year old? Some time before they released a statement saying they would not sign any players over 26?
