What a player

In another rather dreary season for Manchester United there has been one shining light.

Having spent most of the kitty so far on water carriers, Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal did allow himself a couple of creative signings in the summer and Anthony Martial would surely be regarded by most as one of the few positives in the campaign hitherto.

And he has been clocked as the joint fastest player in The Premier League this season writes The Daily Mail:

Statistics show Vardy accelerated his way into the record books, after clocking speeds of 22 miles per hour over five seconds, as he helped Leicester beat West Ham 2-1, back in August.

And France international Martial matched the England striker’s sprint earlier this month when Louis van Gaal’s side drew 3-3 with Newcastle.

The statistic comes from the ever growing EA Sports’ Player Performance Index which is used to develop the latest versions of their football games. EA Sports themselves say that the tests:

‘remove any opinion bias and only work with proven statistical measurements’

Martial is a truly wonderful player for one so young. And perhaps the only player in the Manchester United squad right now who is regularly bringing the crowd to its feet. He has great technique and a direct style of play but all this is crowned with that bewitching ground speed that makes him such a valuable find.

It was reported on Wednesday that Martial could end up costing Manchester United £61.5m if he triggers all of the incentives that his previous club Moncao could receive as part of the deal.

But, at just 20 years of age, you have to say that he looks worth every penny.

Let’s enjoy some of his highlights for Manchester United.
