Some players choke on the biggest football stages and other need it in order to perform.
And we believe that Ross Barkley falls into the latter category. He hasn’t been consistently brilliant in his formative years on Merseyside and niggling injuries haven’t helped.
But he is one of our favourite players and Manchester City have been linked with the midfielder again by the tabloids this week. The Daily Star writes:
Manchester City sneak ahead of Manchester United in battle for £50m midfield star
The suggestion is that, with Yaya Toure considering his options at 32, Barkley could be the new man to drive the midfield at Manchester City.
There are only a few players who could possibly aspire to the level of Toure in his pomp – Paul Pogba and Koke spring to mind.
But, given the choice, we would take Barkley. At 22 he’s like a midfield version of Wayne Rooney – he’s a raging bull of a player, a force of nature who could impose himself in the same way as the magnificent Toure. He’s got power and guile – a rare skill set indeed.
It’s all just conjecture right now. But Manchester City must have taken a look at Barkley when considering where next for the engine room after the Ivory Coast legend leaves the club. We feel that Barkley could spearhead Manchester City’s next era of success.
Let’s take a look him in action.
