What a great start to a Thursday for Chelsea fans.
Although we don’t have official confirmation from either club on this one yet, it looks as if another of the Brazilian greats is to honour The Premier League with his presence as Alexadre Pato has reportedly agreed contractual terms on what could be an £8m move.
The Express leads the way with:
CHELSEA are closing in on an £8 million deal for Corinthians striker Alexandre Pato after agreeing terms on a three-year contract.
Chelsea are in talks with Corinthians over the fee for Pato, 26, who is desperate to come to the Premier League.
And The Daily Mail writes:
Chelsea are discussing a £7million transfer fee with Corinthians for Alexandre Pato.
The Brazil striker is willing to take a pay cut and has agreed a three-year deal in principle.
Pato is an elegant footballer who, we believe, could well take a place in the hole at number 10 for Chelsea. He can and will play at number 9 at times, to keep Diego Costo fresh.
But this is a highly inventive player who is much a creator as a scorer.
None of Pedro, Oscar, Kenedy, Willian or Cesc Fabregas have been wholly convincing at number 10 this season – none of them have grasped the nettle in what many consider to be the most important position in the team – and Pato could be tailor-made for the role at Chelsea.
He has score 130 goals in 334 career appearances at club level. And with his injuries hopefully behind him, he is coming into the best years of his career.
It’s a canny move on the part of Guus Hiddink and, far from representing a stop-gap signing, we feel that Pato could have a long-term influence at Chelsea.
Let’s see some of his highlights.
Chelsea fans: Will the club settle for this addition or can you see another forward coming in this winter?
