We have been impressed by the scope of Manchester City’s scouting over the last few years and it looks as if their latest signing will come from Australia.
Australian side The Central Coast Mariners have stated on their website:
The Central Coast Mariners can today confirm that the Club has agreed to terms with English Premier League Club Manchester City for the transfer of 23-year-old midfielder Anthony Caceres that will take immediate effect.
The 5ft 8in central midfielder had a breakthrough season last year and has made 73 appearances for the club in total since he signed in 2012.
Head coach of the Australian outfit, Tony Walmsley said of the move:
“We need to celebrate when players at the Central Coast Mariners are sold to bigger Clubs. It’s our charter. It’s our intent,” Walmsley said.
“When I brought Anthony Caceres to the Mariners his potential was obvious.
Manchester City have a big job on to replace the arguably waning talents of the once peerless Yaya Toure. While they may find it impossible to ever find a like for like replacement for the regularly physics defying monolith, they are clearly looking at the long-term of the engine room already.
Caceres is an industrious and technically tidy midfielder who isn’t adverse to driving runs at the heart of the opposition defence and the odd howitzer of a goal, despite his modest scoring return so far.
Let’s take a look at the player in action.
Manchester City fans: based on the video, can you see Caceres breaking into the first team any time soon or will he be seen as a squad player for the next couple of years?
