4-2-3-1: Manchester United’s Best XI vs Newcastle after LvG news conference

Crucial week

Memphis made more mistakes in his came for Manchester United against Sheffield United in the FA Cup on Saturday evening.

But we would have him in the team in EVERY game. Why?

Because, unlike so many other pedestrian stars in the squad, he’s jet-heeled, he stretches defences and he makes things happen.

He’s never going to become the world star that many predicted by rooting on the bench. Indeed, he may even decide that enough is enough after just one, stop-start season for the club.

And, if that happened, Manchester United would be losing a rare talent. A player with genuine tae-chaing ability.

He hasn’t played with great consistency down the left so far at Manchester United – but youngsters are erratic – fact.

And we think that he should be given the more simple job of playing on the right hand side and using his pace to beat his man, stay wide and relentlessly ping in crosses with is stronger right foot.

This would offer much better service to the stared Wayne Rooney and allow Anthony Martial to cause havoc on the left hand side, as he has done on most of the occasion that he has played there.

Bastian Schweinsteiger is out injured for the Newcastle game after jarring challenge on his knee at the weekend. We don’t think that he will be risked. And Michael Carrick is far more effective in the engine room anyway.

So here is our eleven We would call it a must-win for Manchester United but the board clearly aren’t keen on sacking the Dutchman.

United fans: let’s have your elevens.
