It was always going to be an almighty headache to break ground on this one and it had been discussed for years before anything happened.
But, with Arsenal having a massive new stadium, Chelsea and Tottenham planning one, and Manchester United getting 30 odd thousand more fans in every time they play at Old Trafford, Liverpool simply had to expand to compete with the elite.
And, in good times for Liverpool fans, the development is well on the way to completion.
Liverpool FC have moistened the pallets of their fans by showing some projected images of what the stadium will look like when completed.
As you would imagine, the club is going to great lengths to expand their hospitality and VIP areas as they look to wring every last cent out of the wealthy. Bravo!
But the new stand for the masses is also magnificent and will increase the capacity by 8500.
The work is set to be completed by the end of next season and will eventually allow Liverpool to compete with the big boys in the transfer market once more.
But Liverpool fans may need to exercise patience here. Arsenal are a great example. They are now able to buy marquee players but only after a few years of austerity while they paid off the loans required to build The Emirates. This is nothing like as big an undertaking but it will still take time to assimilate the cost.
