After officially acquiring Matty Foulds from Bury for an undisclosed fee this month, Everton have today confirmed the signing of Grasshopper Club Zurich youngster Shani Tarashaj. Everton’s official website reported:
Shani Tarashaj, the exciting Swiss Under-21 international, has signed a four-and-a-half year deal with the Club to June 2020.
Unfortunately Everton fans will have to wait until next season at least to see the forward line up for The Toffees as he has been loaned straight back to his club for the rest of this campaign as part of the deal.
Everton manager Roberto Martinez didn’t hold back in his praise for the youngster and said:
“Shani is an enormous young talent in Swiss football who, without a doubt, will have a great future. We’re delighted to have found a young player who believes that our Club is the perfect step for him to enhance his quality and to grow his career.
And the player himself told the in house TV channel:
“It is a dream for me to sign here at Everton. I am proud and so happy to be here.”
Annoyingly liberal use of the word ‘dream’ aside, he does look like a tasty acquisition.
He has hit 8 in 18 so far this season and has 5 in 8 for the Switzerland U21s having played, with honours, at every youth level for his country.
He will now return home to complete his mandatory national service. And we have no doubt that he will be dreaming about Everton while he is freezing his chops off on those long nights in some army barracks in the middle of nowhere.
Let’s have a look at him in action.
Everton fans: a decent buy?
