There have been rumours over the last few days, heck, for the last few months, about the future of Manchester United defensive midfielder/midfielder/striker Marouane Fellaini.

Hew was courted by Serie A in the summer and we reported yesterday on how AC Milan were showing an interest in the peripheral team member.

But The Independent reckons that Manchester United have rejected Milan’s bid to take the player on a temporary basis until the end of the season.

They say:

United are short on attacking options and Van Gaal is reluctant to further weaken squad

We have to agree that, although we have never been convinced by the expensive Belgian, that he could well be needed in the coming months.

Manchester United are short up top with Wayne Rooney having a sluggish start to the campaign and Anthony Martial carrying too much of the attacking responsibility.

But Manchester United are being strongly linked with midfielders and wingers this January so perhaps Louis van Gaal is planning to wait until the summer to buy another number 9.

Fellaini, 28, has played 68 times for Manchester United and scored 9 goals.

He has been in great form for his country and had a decent spell in the team last season. But he is once more warming the bench at Old Trafford and may still push for a move in order to guarantee his place in the Belgium squad for EURO 2016.
