The Daily Mail reports that Chelsea have set an emergency board meeting for today to decide whether Jose Mourinho is the man to take the club forward.
In a scarcely believable Premier League season, Leicester top the table while Chelsea – virtually everyone’s favourites for the title at the start of the season – have succumbed to an amazing 9 defeats in 16 outings.
We feel that any other boss in elite level management would be sacked for this record. But such is the calibre of the Portuguese that his future is still up in the air.
The Daily Mail says:
Jose Mourinho’s sacking will cost Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich £40m as Russian prepares for emergency board meeting
An emergency meeting will be held on Wednesday to decide his fate
The report states that the main reason he hasn’t been sacked so far is that the compensation package for such a move would be astronomical.
SOCCERSWEEP OPINION
It would be the wrong move for Chelsea to let Jose go. He remains one of the best managers in world football – if not the best.
But we can’t help thinking that his mouth has got him in hot water yet again. Mourinho needs to drop the arrogance and admit that he got it wrong with Eva Carneiro. No one is perfect and holding your hands up and admitting your mistakes not only improves your image but is also pleasantly cathartic.
We can’t help but think that Mourinho has lost the dressing room for non-footballing reasons. Be it the treatment of Carneiro or something else that the incendiary Portuguese has done.
