Louis van Gall rarely fails to entertain and he has hit the mother lode again as he has admitted that he wants to bring Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo back to the club.
Speaking in the aftermath of Manchester United’s hard fought victory against Watford on Saturday lunchtime, LvG said:
“We are looking at all players, not just Ronaldo. But these players are mostly ungettable,” said Van Gaal. “With Ronaldo, let’s wait and hope. There is no trainer in the world that doesn’t like him.””
It’s a revelation which will send shock waves around football.
Because the fact that Lous van Gaal has courted the player so publicly would suggest that there is a serious attempt going on behind the scenes to sign the player.
A hollow public statement like this would surely be pointless and leave egg on the face of the manager when it didn’t materialise.
But Manchester United may have been given some hope that the player will return to the club where he made his name.
Cristiano would certainly have been disenchanted after his side were absolutely taken apart on their own patch in El Clasico against Barcelona on Saturday evening.
And the BBC reports that:
..speculation persists that the 30-year-old is set to leave Madrid.
Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, only recently suggested that CR7 would finish his career at Real Madrid.
“There is lots of speculation and a new story every day,” he said. “But if you ask me, I would say Cristiano will finish his career with Real Madrid and be there for many, many years.”
But things may have changed after the humiliating result which leaves Real Madrid 6 points behind Barcelona.
