Manchester City have strode back to the top of the league over the last few weeks and, what’s even more remarkable, is that they have done it without their talisman Sergio Aguero.

He’s been out for over 6 weeks but the Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini stated in his press conference on Friday that the Argentine will be fit to face Liverpool in the big Premier League game of the weekend.

“Sergio is fit and ready to come back, David (Silva) continues to have some small pain in his ankle so it’s a risk for him to play,” says the Chilean. “Unfortunately Samir Nasri, Wilfried Bony and Vincent Kompany are also injured.”

With Bony still out the return of Aguero could not be more timely and, although he will take time to regain his rhythm, even a half fit Aguero will frighten the life out of Liverpool for the first half at least.

You will also notice that David Silva is clearly a doubt for the game. He is almost as important to the team as Aguero but Manchester City have a dearth of strikers and a small army of attacking midfielders right now.

So, while Silva will be missed, City can cope beautifully with Navas, Sterling and De Bruyne behind Aguero.

Alternatively, and we think that this is how they will play, Manchester City could push Yaya Toure forward into the number ten role and play the excellent Fernando and Fernandinho in the engine room.

This formation is more likely given the strength of the opposition.

With all this in mind, here is our revised XI for what has been a humdinger of a game over the last few years.

Manchester City fans: Navas or Fernando?
