This one doesn’t bode well for Manchester United.
Because what little real pace and penetration that they have shown in attack this season has largely come from their new French superstar Anthony Martial.
But he left the friendly match with England last night on crutches after a heavy tackle left him crocked. The Daily Mail reports:
Manchester United are sweating over the fitness of Anthony Martial ahead of Saturday’s trip to Watford after the striker left Wembley on crutches and with his left foot bandaged
The youngster was subbed in the 67th minute and the extent of the damage is as yet unknown.
But the France manager Didier Deschamps did give a cautiously optimistic update on the injury when he said
‘He is in a lot of pain but it is just a knock on the top of his foot.’
It’s difficult to imagine Manchester United losing a player of this quality with such a big period of football coming up.
The last of the international breaks is now over for 2015 with the next fixtures not until March. Until then it’s league football all the way and Manchester United will be desperate to have their main man fit.
With Wayne Rooney scoring again in the match he looks to be turning a corner with his form. But Manchester United’s need for a fit Martial is still huge.
