Manchester United are being linked with a defensive reinforcement in the January window.

While the defence is functional at the moment – with the omnipresent arms and legs of Chris Smalling repelling all comers while Phil Jones or Daley Blind support – Manchester United could still arguably use some more depth in that area.

Blind isn’t a natural centre back, Phil Jones is injury prone and Paddy McNair is raw.

So another central defender may be targeted and the latest name to be thrown into the hat is a young Italian who plays for Juventus.

The Independent reports:

Out-of-favour Juventus defender Daniele Rugani is being linked with a move to the Premier League with both Arsenal and Manchester United set to be eyeing January moves for the centre-back.

While Juventus want to keep him, according to the report, he has fallen down the pecking order and Manchester United and Arsenal may cease the initiative.

Rugani is yet to make his debut for the Italy seniors but he has worked his way up the youth international ranks with distinction.

At 21 we think that he represents the perfect age profile for Manchester United, who have players for the present but need to build for the future. Regain could be assimilated over time.

Let’s see the player in action.

Manchester United fans: would you like to see Rugani join the club or would it mean less opportunities for talented United products like Paddy McNair?
