Manchester United have reportedly been shaken by the news that Antonio Valencia could be out for up to five months after surgery to his foot this week.
The Sun reports:
ANTONIO VALENCIA is facing five months out following foot surgery.
Manchester United’s Ecuadorian ace was told the extent of the damage after the op.
Valencia, 30, damaged a bone above his left foot during last month’s 0-0 derby draw with rivals City.
The report states that he didn’t really how badly injured the foot was at the time and possibly made it worse buy continuing to play.
So what are the options for Manchester United at right back?
Matteo Darmian
Had a wonderful start to his Manchester United career but seemed to irk the boss with some of his defending, particularly by letting crosses come into the box too frequently.
But he should retake his place in the side.
Ashley Young
An able utility man on either flank.
Phil Jones
Has done really well at centre back this season when fit. But he is also an excellent right back.
Paddy McNair
Himself returning from injury but he can play anywhere across the back line. A quality player.
So it appears that Manchester United have good cover in this area and won’t need to go into the market for another right back in January.
We wish Antonio a speedy recovery.
