Chelsea fans will surely see this as the one that got away.
Because Chelsea apparently made a bid for the brilliant Brazil and Barcelona forward Neymar before he moved to the Catalan giants in 2013.
The ex-president of Santos, where Neymar plied his trade as youngster, reckons that Chelsea made a move for the player as early as 2010 according to Brazilian media outlet Sambafoot.
Neymar has been a revelation at Barcelona. He has scored 67 in 107 games for Barcelona over two and bit seasons. He also has a remarkable 67 caps and 46 goals for Brazil, even though they haven’t been at their best over the last few years.
And all this by the age of 23.
With all the problems at the club this season, they could have used his goals and £25m would have been seen as an absolute snip if Chelsea had snared him.
Indeed, Manchester United were reportedly ready to pay £139m or thereabouts for the player over the summer and the Brazilian admitted that there as interest from United.
It’s a bit of transfer gossip which doesn’t seem to want to die down and, until Neymar signs a new contract it will continue.
Perhaps Chelsea will even have another nibble.
Let’s see the brilliant Brazilian in action.
