Newcastle are in serious trouble just two points above the retaliation zone.
Their results have improved slightly in the last couple of games but you would expect another raft of signings in January to reinforce their chances of staying in the league.
And few Newcastle fans would be unhappy if one of their better players from recent years rejoined the club.
The Mirror reports:
Newcastle plot Andy Carroll transfer home after West Ham striker’s 2 injury-ravaged years in London
Carroll has returned to fitness of late and West Ham may now deem him too valuable to sell.
But Newcastle could use this guy more than most. He can offer the sort of presence that has sometimes been missing from the Newcastle front line and you feel that he would bust a gut to turn the Toon fortunes around.
But, we continue to question whether Steve McClaren is optimising the resources currently available.
With Chelsea just one place ahead of Newcastle you could argue that even the best squads have bad spells.
But we can’t understand why a team with a midfield consisting of Sissoko, Colback, Wijnaldum and Tiote could be struggling so badly.
Regardless, we think that the addition of Carroll would be a superb one and almost guarantee Newcastle safety – IF they can keep him fit.
Let’s remind ourselves of the qualities that Carroll brings.
