Newcastle linked with season saving signing in big money swoop

Berahino far better than some might think

Special

Newcastle are in a typical stew under Steve McClaren and we wonder whether he will turn things around before his position becomes untenable.

But we have said before that we do believe Newcastle have a decent squad to choose from now.

Perhaps up top they could use some extra edge and one of the most exciting players in The Premier League, who is potentially available, has been linked to a big money move to Newcastle today.

The Sun says:

NEWCASTLE are ready to launch a January bid for Saido Berahino.

The West Brom striker has shot to the top of the Toon wanted list as Andy Carroll will be difficult to get in a cut-price deal.

But boss Steve McClaren reckons £20million-rated Berahino WILL be a realistic target when the window opens in six weeks.

The 22 year old Burundi born England youth international has been agitating for a move for some time and it appears a matter of when, not if, he gets his big transfer.

But despite being somewhat unsettled, he has still been a menace in front of goal when he has played this season, scoring 3 times in 7 games to add to his tally of 20 in 45 in the last campaign.

Newcastle would be signing a player with great speed and athleticism. But he has also surprised with is composure in front of goal and his ability to find the target. Much more often than not he makes the keeper make a save.

We think that Newcastle have the sort of midfield that could provide excellent service to a top forward and this could be a wonderful catalyst for the club. But they are going to have to dig deep because they won’t be the only interested party.

Let’s see him in action. Newcastle fans: the right profile for the club?
