Bad Luck

When Arsenal paid £12m for France international Mathieu Debuchy in July 2014, they had every intention of making him their first choice right back.

Bacary Sagna had left for Manchester City and Arsenal looked as if they had done great business.

But it’s been something of a hard luck story for the Frenchman who got injured in the first few weeks at his new club.

Since then Hector Bellerin has risen from relative obscurity to become one of the best right backs in the league and Debuchy has hardly had a look in – in fact he has only played 14 times for Arsenal in almost a season and a half.

He seems disgruntled about his situation and has hinted that he will look at his future in January. Sky writes:

Debuchy told Canal+ “I am dealing with it. I am trying to stay strong. We are going to remain concentrated until December, after that I will see.”

Ideally Arsenal would want to keep Debuchy at the club. He’s a solid defender and decent at getting forward.

With so many injuries for Arsene Wenger right now Arsenal would surely want to be acquiring players rather rather losing them in the winter.

But a player of Debuchy’s profile will not want to stay on the bench indefinitely.

Let’s see some of his highlights for Arsenal. Gunners fans: keep or sell?
