Gone?

With Chelsea going out of The Capital One Cup on Tuesday night, after putting out a virtually full strength side, the knives are out for Jose Mourinho.

There is some speculation that a loss to Liverpool at Stamford Bridge in The Premier League this weekend will spell the end of his second spell in charge at the club.

We look at the best possible replacements.

Diego Simeone

There hasn’t been a lot of speculation about Simeone to Chelsea.

But we think that he is the outstanding candidate to take the job. He’s got tactical nous, passion and humility. A wonderful manager.

Guus Hiddink

Did a brilliant job in his first stint as Chelsea manager and we felt that he would have stayed longer if it wasn’t for other contractual obligations. A safe bet.

Carlo Ancelotti

Another really safe pair of hands who has brought the title to Chelsea already. May not have quite the character of Jose but he certainly wouldn’t drag the club downwards.

Ronald Koeman

An outside bet of course. But the speed at which he bought success to Southampton – in the context of major player sales – has been nothing short of remarkable.

Pep Guardiola

Pep will surely stay at Bayern Munchen until the end of the season, so unless Chelsea plan to hold on to Mourinho until then (or employ an interim manager again) we can’t see this one happening.

Chelsea fans: who would you like the club to appoint if Jose leaves?
