The bottom line of Louis van Gaal’s press conference ahead of the Manchester derby on Sunday was that there are no new injury concerns.
In fact the injury list is now down to two – Luke Shaw and Paddy McNair – with Ashley Young now back in training but probably not fit enough to start for Manchester United on Sunday.
It’s a far cry from this time last season when LvG could hardly get 11 fit players together and regularly had to delve into his youth teams for the likes of Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair.
So there can be no excuses if Manchester Untied don’t do themselves justice on the park come Sunday.
The big selection issues are in defensive midfield and up top.
We expect De Gea, Rojo, Smalling, Jones and Darmian to play along the back, but with Daley Blind possibly replacing the out of sorts Argentine at left back.
The question in midfield is whether to go with the bite of Schneiderlin or the potential composure of Carrick and Schweinsteiger.
It’s such a tough one to call but we love having Carrick in there so we are starting with the veterans who were outpaced at Arsenal but should have more control of this home game.
In attack we are putting Wazza in the hole with Martial up top and Memphis left. Mata seems certain to play on the right after being rested for much of the last week.
So here is the team that we expect to see against Manchester City in the big one.

Comment: Depay is not needed to start a match like this. I will prefer Herera, Rooney or even felliani at the left wing. Martial should start as the top 9 and have someone with top speed like Valancia at the right sending in smart crosses in to the 18-yard box for good finishing. This leaves Mata as top 10.

Defends is correctly put but however we shouldn’t put Carrick together with Sweintiger.Remove Carrick and put Schneidelin to play.
Therefore Herrea must play number 10. Mata and Rooney play wing.Martial up front.

its not logical to have both miko and bastian,united only need one of them to play alongside morgan,if united need roony in that lineup then martial should play at the flunks,alternatively i would opt for david at goal,darmian at rightback,smalling and jones at the centerback position and rojo at the leftback.then in the midfield we can have tiger and morgan with herera right infront of them,mata and martial at the flunks then roony in the striking position

I have always feel like united have been playing with only 9 players for the first few games.. rooney and depay have been a disapointment for me.. they often had poor touches..gave the ball away..guilty of picking the wrong options while attacking…and worse, played the roles of our opponents defenders!!!.. hope to see herrera and mata in tandem..with schneiderlin as the holding midfielder..
