We would like to say that it’s two steps forward and one back at the moment for Manchester United. But after the latest embarrassment we aren’t sure how quickly this team is progressing, if at all.
Blame the defence, the midfield, or both. But Manchester United were cut to ribbons in the first 10 minutes at The Emirates on Sunday and some feel that Daley Blind’s lack of natural instinct as a central defender is the problem.
We quite like him there but it’s certainly not Manchester United’s best duo of all time.
Latest reports suggest that a big queue is forming for the services of a very promising German international, with The Guardian among those having a nibble on the story today.
They say that Manchester United are among the clubs interested in Valencia’s 23 year old centre back Shkodran Mustafi.
The 6ft (and change) defender actually played for Everton back in 2009 but never made the grade. He then had two really good years at Sampdoria in Italy and then moved to Spain in 2014, where he has quickly risen to prominence.
In his first campaign at Valencia he played 36 times and scored a highly creditable 4 goals. He’s started this season really well too and his overall form has seen him achieve 8 international caps for Germany since his debut last year.
He looks like a really solid bet. A good all-rounder who is a super defender but also has quick feet and poses a real aerial threat.
With reported interest from Bayern Munchen and other elite clubs in Europe, he may not be so easy to snare.
But he would surely represent top defensive signing.
Let’s see the youngster in action.
Manchester United fans: a solid signing?
