The London Evening Standard tends to be pretty precise where it comes to transfer rumours and they have seen fit to report that Chelsea are planning a huge bid for a midfield maestro next summer.
Chelsea to launch bid for £29m Porto midfielder Ruben Neves next summer
Just 18 years of age, the Portugal youth international – with 8 appearances and 2 goals with the under-21 side – enjoyed a superb breakthrough season last year.
In total, he turned out 37 times for Porto, scoring one goal.
That goal return would suggest that he is a defensive midfielder who will simply sit in front of the back 5.
While he can play that position well, we think that he will ultimately have more strings to his bow as a player.
His technique and fitness levels would suggest that he can become more of a box to box man and a player who can chip in with his fair share of goals from the engine room.
It’s always a gamble paying so much money for a youngster. But, if Chelsea do make a bid, they will have done their homework.
And we think that there will be an increasing emphasis on big clubs buying younger talent in the next few years as there is a definite dearth of available, experienced, talent that isn’t already signed to an elite club.
Let’s take a look at the lad in action.
Chelsea fans: a decent potential purchase?
