Porto vs Chelsea, Champions League Match Day 2, Tuesday 29th September 2015
Chelsea: Begovic; Ivanovic, Zouma, Cahill, Azpilicueta; Mikel, Fabregas; Ramires, Willian, Pedro; Diego Costa
Jose Mourinho has to be one of the sorest losers known to man and the last month will have hit him as hard as anyone.
Chelsea’s results have improved to a degree over the last week but a draw at Newcastle was further proof that The Blues are far from their machine-like best right now.
And the boss is trying to guard against complacency by continuing to ask questions about the greatness of his squad. He said:
“There are two sorts of champions. There are those who win something, and there are lots of them. But there are the other champions who, during their career, win one, two, three, four, five, 10 or 20 titles. In this club we have 25 champions from last year, but serial champions in this squad? John Terry, Jon Mikel [Obi] and [Branislav] Ivanovic are serial champions. Almost every season they have something in the pocket. But how many other serial champions do we have?
He is essentially laying down the gauntlet to the next batch of Chelsea stars. Can they win have the same success as thier predecessors?
We think that Chelsea will challenge at home and in Europe this season.
Every team has a slump at some stage and Jose will hope that Chelsea have had theirs early.
Playing away at Porto is no easy task and uniting could happen in this one.
Suffice to say that if Chelsea are on their game they should take three points.
