Manuel Neuer
Bayern Munchen’s German beef cake who has the physical presence of Peter Schmeichel and the handling of Edwin van der Saar. Hard to fault him.
David de Gea
After two incredible seasons for Manchester United De Gea is pushing Neuer hard for the mantle of the best goalkeeper in the world.
De Gea has cat-like agility and instincts. He is immaculate with his handling and is also a wonderful passer of the ball. A show-stopping talent.
He nearly left Manchester United in the summer of 2015 but the club held on to him and have already benefitted hugely from his presence in the latest campaign.
De Gea eventually signed a new contract with Manchester United in September 2015.
Thibaut Courtois
A mixture of Neuer and De Gea. The youngster has a massive career ahead of him at Chelsea.
Gianluigi Buffon
While other top talents, like Valdes and Casillas, have faded in their 30s, Juventus keeper Buffon looks as strong and sharp as ever.
One of the best keepers of the modern football era and a true Juventus legend.
Joe Hart
The England No.1 and Manchester City stopper had a wobble – like most keepers do – a couple of years back. But he is back to the boil now and looks safe as houses once more.
Manchester City’s undisputed number 1.
Hugo Lloris
Like David De Gea this is one of the few keepers who is worth the entrance fee alone. The Tottenham keeper loves to come out of his box and intercept the ball early and is regularly referred as a ‘sweeper-keeper’.
Petr Cech
At 33, Cech may have lost some of his agility. But he is still utterly dependable and a true professional.
Signed for Arsenal from Chelsea in 2015.
Igor Akinfeev
He has gone under the radar over the last couple of years but we would have no qualms at all about playing him in goal for any team in the world. A supremely strong pair of hands.
Jasper Cillessen
Made a name for himself at The World Cup in Brazil 2014, as Holland made the semi-finals with a big hand from their keeper. Looks like he can become one of the best over the next few years and Ajax may struggle to hold on to him.
Salvatore Sirigu
The AC Milan star and Italian international, of some 14 caps, can count himself a tad unfortunate to have been a contemporary of the peerless Juventus keeper Buffon. Otherwise the tally of international caps would surely be much higher for the 28 year old Paris Saint Germain keeper.
He has been twice voted the Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Year in France and won 3 titles on the trot with Paris Saint Germain.
