Better

Wow. What a window.

We had the usual nonsense about Bale and Ronaldo to United. Ramos was a surprise story which few ever believed would happen.

And perhaps the biggest surprise of all was that Manchester United boldly spent £36m on the sublime youngster Anthony Martial – few saw that one coming.

But the retention of David de Gea, probably by default, could be pivotal to Manchester United’s season and, with him likely to be cup-tied for The Champions League, perhaps it’s now more likely that he will go on a free next summer than in the winter window.

Some will see this a huge loss of the expected £29m fee from Madrid.

But De Gea will be priceless for Manchester United this season when he refocuses – he will prove to be a massive fillip for the club.

Manchester United have added well in defence with the excellent Matteo Darmian. With Luke Shaw coming to the boil this season, the defence looks far better, especially on the flanks.

The midfield looks heavyweight again and the addition of Martial will hopefully help Manchester United’s laboured attack to click.

We think that Louis simply has to play Martial on one flank and Memphis on the other with either Herrera or Mata in the hole behind Wazza. This will finally give Manchester United the speed they crave on both flanks.

It will be a very strong side once they get going.

So here is our best XI for the season now that the transfer activity has been completed.
