Considering how commanding Manchester City were in their first game of the campaign – a tricky away tie against a usually solid looking West Brom side – you might imagine that they don’t need any further investment.
But the fact that Manchester City still appear to be one of the more active clubs in the market should send a shiver down the spine of many a rival.
Because City are still being strongly linked with a move for Wolfsburg winger Kevin de Bruyne. A bid of £47m was reportedly tabled this week and we should see a conclusion to that one soon enough.
And there has been constant speculation about Nicolas Otamendi to Manchester City.
City spent a fortune on Eliaquim Mangala last summer. But his inconsistent form, twinned with regular injuries to Vincent Kompany, may lead City back into the market for more depth in defence.
Interestingly, SkyBet has shortened the odds on Nicolas Otamendi moving to City this summer. Rivals Manchester United were leading the charge with the bookmaker until yesterday but City’s odds have since come in from 6/1 to 6/4, with United out at 5/2 for his signature. Sky Sports reports:
Nicolas Otamendi has long been linked with a move to Manchester – but could it be to the blue side? City have been backed in from 6/1 last night to 6/4 this morning at Sky Bet, with United now 5/2 to sign the Valencia star.
Otamendi would surely go straight into the first team at the expense of Mangala, if he joined the club.
He’s a chiseled, no-nonsense Argentine international who has become a regular for club and country over the last few years.
He was one of the stand out performers in La Liga last season with 6 goals in 38 imperious performances in the league for Valencia.
He’d be a marvellous addition and we think that he’d make Manchester City favourites for the title.
Let’s see him action.
City fans: do you need him?
