Chelsea have moved with great pace to replace their departing left-back Filipe Luis and reports this afternoon from Germany suggest that a fee has been agreed for the brilliant young fullback, Abdul Rahman Baba.
German media outlet BILD reports:
Transfer to FC Chelsea: Baba Rahman exchanged for around 25 million euros from FC Augsburg to the Premier League
It’s a huge fee – which equates to about £17.7m – and much more than we expected Chelsea to pay for the lad.
It also poses serious questions about who will start in the defence next season.
Chelsea have a very settled back line with Cesar Azpilicueta the nailed on left back, even though he’s naturally a right footed full back who plays on the other flank.
With Bratislava Ivanovic now 31, perhaps Chelsea are thinking about playing Azpilicueta on the right before too long.
Whatever happens, it gives The Blues great options.
Rahman is just 21 so will perhaps have to bide his time before he is starting regularly in The Premier League. But he’s a wonderful talent – a bucaneering full back who does the bread an butter defending rather well but also loves to get forward and attack the opponent.
He’s already played 11 times for Ghana because he is well developed physically and should have no problems with the hustle and bustle of The Premier League.
Let’s see the lad in action.
Chelsea fans: will he have to wait for a chance to get in the first team or play straight away?
