Chelsea have reportedly had a second offer for John Stones turned down as they intensify their bid to bring a top quality centre back into the club this summer.
The Guardian reports that the second bid, in the region of £26m (36m Euros) was turned down by Everton but that there might be light at the end of the tunnel for the West London club.
Chelsea have had a second offer of £26m for John Stones turned down by Everton
The fee seems enormous for a 21 year old who has only played 4 times for England and had one really decent season in The Premier League.
But this fee would be offset by the expected longevity of service that the lad could provide to Chelsea.
They very much perceive him as a long term solution, a successor to John Terry and perhaps even a future captain of the club.
The report states that
‘Everton will refuse to sell him for less than £30m’
This would suggest that they are, begrudgingly, prepared to do business at that price.
They might face late competition from fierce rivals Manchester United however.
The North West giant is also said to be interested in signing the player and has asked to be kept informed of developments.
Let’s see Stones in action. Chelsea fans: can he eventually step into the shoes of the big man?
