These are crucial times for new Real Madrid head coach Rafa Benitez.
He has to appease the members of his current squad who may be disenchanted – Sergio Ramos must be chief amongst these – and also try to make his own imprint in an already world class squad by adding his own preferred players.
But Real Madrid’s pre-season form will have given the fans confidence that the Spaniard can steer the ship in the right direction.
In terms of additions, the next player through the door may well be a prodigious young talent who has caught the attention of the media due to his performances for the international youth teams.
Sky Sports writes:
Real Madrid are on the verge of completing the signing of Spain U19 captain Jesus Vallejo, reports AS.
Apparently the defender was integral to Spain’s recent victory in the U19 European Championships, which took place in Greece this summer.
The deal could be finalised by the end of the week with Real Madrid seemingly prepared to trigger the release clause in the contract of the player – which stands at 6m Euros.
Perhaps there are some parallels here with the aforementioned Ramos himself. They both play at centre back and both moved to Madrid as teenagers.
If Vallejo can have a career at Real Madrid which is anywhere near as good as that of Ramos then there will be few complaints from Los Blancos fans.
Let’s see the lad in action.
