This has been one of the biggest transfer stories of the summer and, just when we thought that it was being put to bed for now, it rears its head once more.
We reported yesterday on the notion that, with Sergio Ramos looking ever more likely to stay at Real Madrid, Los Blancos’ target David de Gea would be requested to see out his contract at Manchester United before his likely move to Spain on a free in twelve months.
But, in a transfer story which simply refuses to lie down, Spanish media outlet Marca reports today that a move could be completed in the coming days. They say:
With Florentino Pérez having got the Sergio Ramos situation under control, the club has turned its attentions back to the talks over the United keeper.
Negotiations had reached a stalemate, but the club wants to bring in the shot-stopper as soon as possible. An agreement could be reached over the coming days.
Real Madrid have done particularly well in terms of transfer business with Manchester United over the last few years.
Players like David Beckham, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Cristiano Ronaldo have all had massive impacts at the Bernabeu and even Javier Hernandez chipped in with 9 goals in his loan season at the club.
But Manchester United are not a feeder club for Real Madrid.
They are a direct rival.
And they will surely do all they can to keep the player – even if it means letting him go for nothing at the end of the season.
Because his value to the club is surely greater than the £15m or so that Real Madrid may offer for one of the best players in the world in his position – and a player who, at 24, has ten years left at the top.
